Caregiver Standards

Families depend on you for safe, reliable care — these standards protect that trust.

One: Code of Conduct

You are expected to:

  • Arrive on time and remain for the full scheduled shift

  • Cancel at least 24 hours in advance if you are unable to attend a shift

    • Repeated cancellations inside this window may lead families to cancel service

  • Remain focused on care duties — personal phone use, texting, or social media during shifts is not permitted (except for care-related communication or emergencies)

  • If there is spare time in a shift, seek out additional supports that can be assisted with - light housekeeping, kitchen tidy, linen change - be helpful!

  • Protect client privacy and maintain appropriate professional boundaries at all times

  • Clock in and out accurately for every shift — you are responsible for ensuring your time is recorded correctly, this ensures pay is true and accurate.

    • Missed or incorrect clock-ins cannot be adjusted, and improper time clock usage may result in inaccurate or reduced pay.

Two: Scope of Service

As a caregiver you may provide non-medical personal support services only.

Permitted tasks may include:

  • Personal care (e.g. bathing, dressing, toileting)

  • Mobility and transfer assistance (within training)

  • Light meal preparation and feeding assistance

  • Light housekeeping related to the client

  • Companionship, supervision, and reminders

PSWs must not perform:

  • Any medical or clinical tasks, including:

    • Administering, handling, or managing medications of any kind

    • Wound care, dressing changes, or pressure sore treatment

    • Taking, monitoring, or interpreting vital signs

    • Managing catheters, feeding tubes, ostomies, or oxygen

    • Making medical assessments or decisions

  • Tasks not listed in the care plan

  • Deep cleaning, financial tasks, driving, or care for others not listed in the care plan

  • Any task that exceeds your training or certification

Three: Reliability, Communication & Care Model

CareQuilt operates differently from traditional care agencies. Families choose CareQuilt — and PSWs are matched to consistent work — because:

  • You are the primary caregiver for your assigned client

  • No backup caregivers are scheduled for your shifts

Because of this care model, please remember:

  • Cancel shifts only when absolutely necessary

  • Last-minute cancellations leave clients without care - this may result in the family cancelling the service

  • All schedule changes must be coordinated through CareQuilt

  • Do not contact clients or families directly about cancellations or shift changes

  • Report delays, issues, or non-emergency concerns to CareQuilt promptly. CareQuilt does not provide emergency services, and any emergencies or crises must be managed professionally by the caregiver in accordance with standard emergency procedures.

Contractor Acknowledgment, Liability & Work Arrangement
